A career professional fundraiser for a wide variety of non-profits, Phil Mazzara began studying the literature and history of The Great War during college in the late 1960s. He “discovered” Wilfred Owen in 1968, the 50th anniversary of the young soldier-poet’s death one week before the Armistice. Since then he has collected the works of Owen and his fellow war poets.
In 2014, he and his wife established the Mazzara-Daly Great War Endowment at Lynchburg (VA) College and donated several hundreds books on the history and literature of the war, many of which are first editions.
His interests in The Great War are now “bookended” by the 50th and 100th anniversaries of that war.
