Each year, the New Orchestra of Washington’s diverse and broad community comes together at NOWfest to celebrate the importance of art in our lives and to support the New Orchestra of Washington’s mission to bring classical music relevant to modern society.

Join us on the evening of Saturday, March 30 at the historic headquarters of the Organization of American States for this special event as we honor this year’s ArtsMatter Award recipient, Neeta Helms, Founder and President of Classical Movements. NOW Artistic Director Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez will lead the New Orchestra of Washington in an uplifting performance of works by beloved Mexican composers. Additionally traditional Mexican cuisine will be offered throughout the evening. Browse through unique silent auction items as you enjoy wines from the open bar in the incomparably beautiful OAS building.

Since 1992, Neeta Helms has built Classical Movements into a premier music touring company, offering services to world-class orchestras and choruses, world-renowned conductors, composers and soloists, as well as numerous celebrated institutions. Neeta has led trailblazing tours all over the world including Russia, only a year after the fall of the Soviet Union.  In spite of constant challenges, Neeta has made a deliberate effort to take ensembles to frequently overlooked destinations, currently operating in 145 countries. Neeta is especially attracted to meaningful and pioneering projects such as the Cuban-American Youth Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra’s historic tours to Cuba and South Africa.  Other notable projects include bringing musicians from the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra to Washington, D.C. in the early days of the war and arranging for musicians in 65 countries to participate in the YouTube Symphony Orchestras in New York and Sydney.

Neeta has traveled to 98 countries and maintains strong professional and personal relationships around the world. In 2014, Classical Movements was awarded the BCA10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America; Neeta was named one of Musical America’s 2017 Movers & Shapers and has been nominated for the 2019 Classical:NEXT Innovation Award.
